Why GLP-1 medications cause nausea
GLP-1 receptor agonists (semaglutide in Ozempic and Wegovy, tirzepatide in Mounjaro) work partly by slowing gastric emptying โ the rate at which food leaves the stomach. This is great for blood sugar control and satiety, but it means food sits in the stomach longer. When the stomach is full for extended periods, nausea signals are triggered.

What actually helps nausea on GLP-1
- Small portions: Less food = less stomach distension = less nausea. Eat half your normal portion.

- Return to small solid meals as tolerated โ usually by day 2
