GLP-1 Post-Injection Meals
Injection day is the hardest day of the week for most GLP-1 users. This guide covers exactly what to eat, when to eat it, and how to get through the 24–48 hour nausea window.
Injection day: hour-by-hour eating guide
0–2 hours
Immediately after injection
Sip water or herbal tea only. Ginger or chamomile tea is ideal. No solid food if you feel nauseous. If you feel fine, a small cracker or two is acceptable.
2–6 hours
First few hours
If nausea is mild: plain crackers, rice cakes, or a small bowl of broth. If nausea is severe: continue with herbal tea only. Try ginger chews.
6–12 hours
Mid-day recovery
Soft, bland food when ready: plain white rice, congee, or plain scrambled eggs. Eat very slowly. Half your normal portion size.
12–24 hours
Day 1 recovery
Gradually return to soft normal meals. Ginger miso broth, poached chicken, cold noodles. Still avoid fried food, large portions, and strong smells.
24–48 hours
Day 2 recovery
Most people are largely back to normal. Focus on catching up on protein intake. Salmon, Greek yogurt, eggs, chicken soup, tuna bowls.

Post-injection FAQs
What should I eat after a GLP-1 injection?
In the first 6–12 hours after a GLP-1 injection, stick to very gentle foods: herbal tea (ginger or chamomile), plain crackers, or broth. Small sips and bites only. After 12–24 hours, gradually introduce soft, bland foods like plain rice, scrambled eggs, or congee. Avoid fatty, fried, or strongly-scented foods for 48 hours post-injection.
When is the best time to eat after a GLP-1 injection?
Wait at least 30–60 minutes after injection before eating. Many GLP-1 users find it helps to eat a small meal 2–3 hours BEFORE injecting (not after), so the stomach is partially empty at peak nausea time. If injecting in the evening, avoid a large meal within 2 hours of injection.
How long does nausea last after GLP-1 injection?
Most people experience peak nausea 24–72 hours after injection. Nausea typically improves significantly by the 3rd or 4th week of a stable dose. It often returns temporarily after each dose increase. Proper food choices can significantly reduce the duration and intensity.
