GLP-1 Low Appetite Meals
When you can only manage a small amount of food, every bite has to earn its place. These 0 recipes pack maximum protein and nutrition into minimum volume.
Why low appetite happens on GLP-1
GLP-1 receptor agonists are specifically designed to suppress appetite โ that's a core part of how they work. The medication acts on appetite-regulating centres in the brain and on the stomach, slowing gastric emptying so you feel full for longer. For many people, appetite suppression goes further than expected.
The protein priority rule
When you're eating significantly less, protein must come first. On a severely reduced appetite, it's easy to meet calorie needs with carbohydrates (crackers, bread) while completely under-eating protein. This leads to muscle loss โ especially problematic when GLP-1 is causing rapid weight loss.
Target: minimum 20g protein per meal, even on low-appetite days.
Strategies for eating when nothing sounds good
- Eat on a schedule, not when hungry. Hunger signals are suppressed on GLP-1 โ if you wait to be hungry, you may not eat at all. Set reminders.
- Make food visually appealing. Presentation matters when appetite is low. Use colour, nice bowls, and natural lighting.
- Start with protein, then add carbs if you have room. Reverse the normal plate order.
- Liquid protein counts. Greek yogurt smoothies, protein shakes, and milk all deliver protein when solid food feels impossible.
- Eat small, eat often. 5โ6 very small meals is better than 2โ3 medium ones.
