Gut-Easing Prune Flax Protein Smoothie

This creamy smoothie is designed for people on GLP-1 medications, combining gentle fiber, magnesium-rich ingredients, and adequate protein in a small, easy-to-tolerate portion. The blend of prunes, flax, and kefir supports regularity while being mild in flavor and easy on a slowed digestive system.

Ingredients

  • 250 ml plain kefir — chilled
  • 150 ml water — cold
  • 60 g prunes — pitted
  • 16 g ground flaxseed — ready to use
  • 30 g plain whey protein powder — scooped
  • 20 g baby spinach — rinsed optional

Instructions

  1. Add the kefir and cold water to a blender first to create a liquid base.
  2. Add the prunes, ground flaxseed, whey protein powder, and baby spinach (if using) on top of the liquids.
  3. Blend on low speed for 20–30 seconds, then increase to high speed and blend until completely smooth and the flax is well dispersed.
  4. Let the smoothie sit for 3–5 minutes to allow the flax to begin absorbing liquid and thickening slightly, then blend briefly again and pour into two small glasses.
  5. Sip slowly over 10–15 minutes, stopping when comfortably full; you can add a splash of extra water if it feels too thick.

Tips for GLP-1 users

If you are very sensitive to fiber on GLP-1 medication, start with half the flaxseed and half the prunes, drink slowly with extra water on the side, and increase the amounts over several days as your gut adjusts.

Using chilled kefir and cold water keeps the flavor mild and the smell low, which can be easier to tolerate if you also experience nausea on GLP-1 therapy.
